the shrine//an argument

(the fleet foxes)
unfortunately, the embedded link isn't working right, but try it out:

*The director of this video was Sean Pecknold (aka Robin Pecknold, the Fleet Foxes frontman's brother), check out his vimeo! As it turns out, he has done most of the Fleet Foxes' music videos, as well as some other beautiful short films/music videos.

John Cage is a hipster genius.

I saw Beirut last thursday at Terminal 5, it was amazing! They are so talented, and just awesome.
The 2nd best part of the night (1st being Beirut/Zach Condon in his magnificence) was probably either making some new friends in line, or getting Halal gyros after the show. I am in love with Halal food trucks, I wish I didn't have to walk by them so often, the smell of them makes my mouth water.
Have you seen the new-ish video for Santa-Fe? It made me sad because I love puppies...but I still enjoy it. Watch it below:

I also saw the FLEET FOXES last saturday! I saw them in Brooklyn at the Williamsburg Waterfront, which was beautiful at sunset. You could see Brooklyn Bridge and the landscape of Manhattan against the color-changing sky as the sun set. It was remarkable, as was the music of the Fleet Foxes; their voices/harmonies are so mellow and ghostly, in a great way.

Below are some other new-ish music videos, by some chill-wave artists that are pretty cool:

I really love this Washed Out video:
*So0o ChiLL Brah!
**but really, this video is great. Being carefree, finding love within the loneliness of the journey....I feel a deep connection with the character in the video (good acting/directing?), do you feel it too?

Neon Indian - Polish girl:
*Neon Indian is really getting better/growing up--music-wise.

Explosions in the Sky - Be Comfortable Creature:

Avey Tare - Oliver Twist:

*its a bit disturbing, but its good animation and a great song.

Best Coast - When I'm With You:

*BestyCoasty is goofy. But I am not gunna lie, I hate clowns--especially ronald mcdonald.

Wavves - Bug:

*lol, oh wavvves!

Real Love//Wishful Thinking

The past week has been full of long nights of staying out late in Barcelona (in the clubs and on the beach). It has consisted of Twix and kabobs at 4:00 am (on friday) and hamburgers and cereal at 5:00 am (on monday). Good food that late at night/early in the morning is the best.
I only have a few nights left in Barcelona, tonight, tomorrow, friday, and saturday. "Fly Me to the Moon Festival" is tonight and tomorrow (the Animal Collective and Beach House concert), so I only have friday and saturday to go out with friends for the last time here. I'm tired of staying out late so often, but everyone here does it, and most people do it much more than I do. However, I love meeting new and interesting people and just having fun being close to friends. When I remember that, I feel like it is almost better to go out and do my body harm by not sleeping again (versus sleeping and missing the 'fun').

I love the 'natural' kind of simple fun more than this crazy 'fun' that does not always end happily. It brings me more happiness than anything else, the Fleet Foxies know what I mean:

**I like playing with sparklers in the park too...it may sound childish, but its unaltered 'real' fun.

Its quite true:

'If we ever meet again--will we ever?'
*will we ever meet again?

So much life is wasted in wishful thinking.
Wanting so much to meet again--how can that be possible?
Lives continue, and there is no room for the unexpected.
Little time left, it is nearly worthless to try.
What more can be done? You've waited for the last chance once again.
Wishful thinking will get you no where this time.

if not now, then ever?

I have also just finished reading The Haiku Anthology (3rd Edition), so good. I guiltfully (is that a word?) bent down a lot of the pages to be able to go back and remember which poems where my favorites. I then recited most of them to some of my closest friends, they enjoyed them too. Some were serious (via exposing universal/human truths), while others were more simple.

tugging and begging/at the end of his leash/the dog's owner - Mykel Board
mirror//my face where I left it - Bob Boldman
morning surf/a dog fills the sky/with seagulls - Jim Boyd
it is growing dark,/no one has come to the door,/and still the dog barks - L.A. Davidson

I hear her sew/I hear the rain/I turn back a page - Leroy Gorman

acid rain less and less i am one with nature*/*less and less nature is nature - Mountain
tonite/nothing to write//but this - Alan Pizzarelli

Also, for today:
a new video for Panda Bear-Surfer's Hymn

love that it seems spooky, but is actually happy (they're just doing what they love!)

And an amazing/beautiful/lo-fi? video for the newest Fleet Foxes-Grown Ocean. If the embeded video isnt working, try the link below (it is really worth watching!):

That music video makes me want to be best friends with them and live the way they do, so I can be happy like they are. I want my life to be like that video: full of love and freedom.

dont miss this.

The Fleet Foxes are playing live in Texas, and broadcasting the concert online, on NPR tonight (9:30pm) right here! You can also listen to there new album on NPR, here. I will definetly be watching this tonight, I love the Fleet Foxies!

While on the NPR music website, I was checking out what other concerts they have recorded or filmed. My favorite are the Tiny Desk Concerts. I am listening/watching the Mount Kimbie one right now (below). Although dubstep is sometimes cheesy, I love it--when it is done well (like real music/purposeful art).

They also have a recorded Wavves & Best Coast concert that I went to, it was a lot of fun. When Wavves came on, they threw a ton of beach balls and blow-up aliens into the crowd. Most of them stayed up for a few songs, but by the end there was only one beach ball left. One of the half-deflated aliens landed close to me and I saved it. I kinda felt guilty about it, but it didn't have much air left...I keep it in my closet now.
